I decided today I wanted to highlight color. I was recently featured in a treasury on Etsy called "Live Life in COLOR" and I loved the concept. With the weather getting cooler and Fall right around the corner, I start to bring out the warmer clothes and start thinking about Halloween! I am also working on a Halloween customized t-shirt for kids and onesies for babies!

Halloween Bucket

This decorative bucket can be used for many things and can be 100% personalized. The bucket is plastic and the letters are vinyl. I have used ribbon on the handles.

You can use any name on the front of the bucket (or last name) and use polka dots to decorate OR pumpkins for Halloween.

I have a new type of soap in my shop. It is really neat and I think the ideas will be endless. I have embedded Mickey Mouse soaps and flower soaps into a loaf soap. But I could do almost anything...baby shower soaps, limes, gummie bears, lego men, etc. You name it and it could go into the soap!

As an added treat this soap has some Epsom salts in the flowers for an extra soft feeling. I love it because it gives me an all nature exfoliate, but it isn't too rough (because it is in only some of the flowers).

I love personalized items! Today, I am going to highlight monograms.

To create these adorable onesies, I have used non-toxic flexible fabric paint. The paint is washable and is permanent. The white bodysuits I use are Gerber® brand Onesies®.

Please let me know what size, color, and letter you would like to have on your onesie. I can do all prime colors: red, black, yellow, green, and blue. I can also do green, red, and pink with glitter. If there is a color that you want,but I don't have listed please contact me and I will do my best to get it.

If you would like a star instead of a heart on each side of the letter we can do that too.

If onesies aren't your thing, then why not go for a wine glass.

Personalized with vinyl lettering and cute dots. Can do different colors and the letter of your choice. Will also do monogrammed if needed (for wedding toast). Will personalize for you. Price will need to be adjusted depending on what is requested ($1-2 depending on how many colors, letters, etc).

Flower Centerpieces for Party

There are six flower centerpieces. They are all Gerber daisies and have gem stones in the middle of each flower for some extra bling.

The flowers are pink, purple, orange, blue, and yellow. They have black and white fabric around their stems and they have black and hot pink ribbon around them. They sit all by themselves on the tables. You will not need a vase.

Tea Cup Decorations

Are you hosting a tea party or a Mad Hatter Tea party that would have teacups as decorations? Then these teacups would be a perfect fit.

These four cups have a playing card in them and a tea bag, but the tag can be personalized to fit your party. Just let me know the name you want written on the tag. I can also do other colors.

New Items - Are you ready for Mother's Day?

We have new items this week, with more to follow. We are in love with spring and the weather has inspired us to create some new soaps.

The first soap we have to share is a baby onesie. My best friend is having a baby and it got me in the mood for some baby things. I saw this mold and knew I had to have it.

Baby Onesies Soaps

These soaps are the cutest little onesie soaps. You can have them in any color you wish (maybe colors that match a baby shower), such as pink for a girl, blue for a boy, or green and/or yellow if you are not sure of the baby's gender. Each soap is 4 oz. and it is a hefty bar of soap.

Wouldn't these be perfect favors at a baby shower or a great gift for a new mom to be?

The next soaps are cupcakes. I have lots of cupcakes in my shop, so this isn't entirely new. But I did experiment with some whipping soap and make some really cool looking icing for the cupcakes.

Personalized Tote Bags

I got an order for some personalize tote bags that will be used as bridesmaids/flower girl gifts for a wedding. It gave me the idea to put up a post about how I do it.

I start with the bags and the non-toxic fabric paint. The buyer can pick what color of bags that they would like and also can pick font, pictures and basic design of the bag.
I then design the stencils and cut them out. I use butcher paper because it is thick enough to keep the paint where it needs to be, but also because it is cheap. I usually buy a huge roll of it all for around $9.
Then I iron the stencil onto the bag.

This is about the only kind of ironing that I enjoy.

Then I start with a thin first layer of paint. This is to keep the pain where it needs to go, but I don't put it on too thick.

Then I add another layer or three if it needs it (white usually always needs it).

Then I pull off the butcher paper and here you go!

This was for a wedding, the bride has bridesmaid put on one side and their name on the other side.

These bags were for Christmas presents. The buyer had bags made and bought books to put inside them. What a great idea!

I had an order for XO soap this week so I thought I would walk you through how I make them.

These are my molds that I use for making this soap.

I have an alphabet mold so I first pour my X and my O. The scent is strawberry champagne and I used pink for the letters.

Then I pop out the X and the O and put them in the freezer for a couple minutes to get them cold so when I pour the clear soap over it, the letters won't melt.

Then I pour the clear soap over it so that they letters are in the middle of the clear soap.

I had some pink strawberry champagne soap left over so I made a sample soap with it. I love the pink!

A Day In The LIfe of A Soap Maker

I thought I would share what a big order is like and how I go about making my orders.

I took pictures this time as I worked on a bigger order of gummie bear soap. They are being used as a favor during a Grand Opening. Flexibility and creativity, is why I love selling on Etsy. The more creative you are the better and the ability to work one-on-one with customers to make sure you create exactly what they want.

After the order is placed and the customer has gone over with me, what they want and when, I pour the soap.

I place the soap on foil on my counter top. I usually make all of one color or scent first and then move on. I made the green (lime), orange (orange), red (strawberry) and then yellow (lemon).

Don't they look delicious? Too bad they are soap, or thank goodness for my hips!

Next I separate them out so I can place them in bags or wrap them if they are bars of soap. Then I will work on the labels. This order required that I use the customer's label for the front, instead of my usual label. Then I will put an ingredients listing label on the back of the bag or bar of soap. At this point, my bags have all their labels on them before I even put my soap in them.

I wish you could smell this...I was craving gummie bears so badly at this point.

Then I will place the soap into the bag. For this order, the customer wanted 15 gummie bears into each bag of 50. This is the most tedious portion of the process, because there isn't a way to be creative in this step. But I will say that sometimes it is exactly what I need. It helps to slow down, count out bears and place them in the bag, then repeat 49 times.

Then I will place the twisty tie on the top of the bag. I will then make sure the soap and the label look the best way possible. I also want to have my best product as possible.

Then it is ribbon time! The customer might give me colors to use or I can just pick one from my selection. For this order, I decided to use all sort of colors and options. We used a black and white label so I wanted the ribbon to pop.

I have posted my first wreath, and I have three more left to get on my Etsy site. I love making wreaths and I have one for about every month to be put on my own front door. For Christmas, I have three different wreaths that I hang up (not all on my front door, though).

This wreath has the ability to be customized. The letter "M" is shown on the wreath, but any letter or number can be requested. The letter can be painted in green or red. Please state clearly which letter and which color you prefer. The wreath also had red, green, and gold Christmas ornaments, a red glitter snowflake, a red poinsettia, red, green and gold berries, and a gold ribbon. The wreath is 24" diameter and 4 1/2" deep.

Long Time No Blog

I have been taking a little time away from my blog and my Etsy site. But now I am back and ready to attack! I have been busy making new listings and experimenting with some new ideas. I had a couple orders this week and it made me realize how much I have missed this.

The crazy thing is fall is around the corner and the holiday season will be upon us before we know it. I am getting back in the swing of things, just in time.

Need Motivation or is it Inspiration?

I am having a rough time coming up with some inspiration lately. I still love to create the soaps and lotions that I have, but the part that I love the most is coming up with new ideas.

I haven't had a new idea in a while. I have looked through magazines, cruised all over the Etsy site, and I have even taken walks outside to see if I can get motivated or a little bit inspired to try something new.

My question to everyone is, what do you do when you get in a funk creatively?

Changing Things Up

I have to do things a little different for a while in my Etsy shop. I have a lot of inventory from doing some craft shows and I am getting ready for vacation so I am going to do customized work on a case-by-case basis for a while. I am still selling my inventory and have everything packaged and ready to sell so if you order I can usually ship the same day. It will get to you faster! That is great, right?

I do have one new product to show too.

Craft Show and New Items

I had fun at the craft show, but unfortunately it wasn't a huge success for me. I did find some of the best salsa I have ever tasted.

I did learn a lot and I know what I should do better next time and what I shouldn't do at all. I think that is always the hardest with events like this, you basically have to learn as you go. I did get Carmel corn and the salsa so I did win, in terms of buying things.

I am participating in another craft show at my church this fall. I am hoping I make more than last time, but I made back my entry fee so I was happy. I am not going to tell you that I didn't have much trouble since the fee was only $10.

First Craft Show

I am in my first craft show this weekend. I am so nervous. I have been trying to read tons of articles on what to expect, get on Etsy's forums to learn from the veterans, and make inventory all while not losing my mind. I have been taking pictures this week as I have been getting ready. Hopefully, I will have more to share after Saturday. Cross your fingers for me!

Creative Juices Flowing

While I was making some soaps for some new customers my creative juices got flowing and I created a couple new soaps. I have been trying to think of new ideas. I am now leaning toward Red, White and Blue for Memorial Day or maybe even black and white checkered for the Indy 500 (Big Deal Here). But I haven't done anything yet. The ideas are still forming in my mind, but I did create three new soaps yesterday. Here is the first one.

Pink and Pink Bar of Soap

So far, that is the only one I have listed. I like to list once a day instead of everything all at once. But I will give you a sneak peak at my other bar of soap. In the first one, I carved out circles in the light pink layers. I used those circle to make a almost wavy appearance in the soap when I cut it. I really liked the outcome so I thought why not put different shapes into the layers and see how that would come out when I cut it. I used folded over soap and balls of soaps in the next one and it turned out like this.

Isn't this soap cool? As I said, I don't have it posted yet, but I will let you know when I do. I just love it and wanted to share.

This last soap is from a customers order. It started the whole 'Creative Juices Flowing' thing. I don't know why because I have done two color soaps before (lots and lots), but for some reason it was the inspiration I needed. :D

Sales, Promotions, and a Case of the Mondays

As I have been hanging out in the Etsy forums lately, I have noticed how some people are complaining about a lack of sales. I have noticed it a little, myself. So I started thinking about what I could do to pick up the pace a little and get some sales. I am currently running a Mother's Day Sale, I blog, I use Twitter, and I am on Facebook. Then I started thinking maybe it isn't what I am doing, but how...

Today, instead of strictly promoting or promoting someone else (Coming Soon), I am going to talk a little bit about why I do what I do. Why bath and body products? Why personalized items? If you want, leave a comment with a little bit about what you do what you do. It is so neat to hear the story behind the craft. That is one of the reasons why I love Etsy.

Here's my story:

Before I was a stay-at-home mom to my son, Thomas, I worked in Communications in the political world. I loved my job, but one look at Thomas and I was stuck. I didn't want to leave his side, but at the same time I couldn't turn off my creative side.

I have always made wreaths, I call it my first love, and I tried to sell them on Etsy, but it just didn't work. I bought a cricut and once again, it was love at first sight. I still use it all the time. I found out how to do more than just cut out shapes. I have made tons of personalized items for my son, my nieces, and my nephew. I still really enjoy it. I even make my own thank you cards for my customers via my cricut.

My son, Thomas, has sensitive skin like I do and I didn't realize all the chemicals that are in soap and beauty products until I started reading the ingredients and looking them up to see what was causing Thomas' rashes and such. I was amazed. I couldn't believe there wasn't much out there for sale that was actually soap. I started reading books and reading articles on the Internet...Now I make soaps, lotions, bubble baths and facial soap (just to name a few).

I use all of my products and always try them out before putting them on my site (actually trying out products is the best part of my job). I love the fact that I can create almost anything with soap. It is fun to let the imagination run wild.

I can! My newest listing are mini cinnamon rolls with cream cheese frosting soap. They smell heavenly as the rolls, with a realistic cinnamon swirl on top, are scented with cinnamon sugar and the frosting is scented cream cheese frosting. They are making me crave real cinnamon rolls. I am over the moon with these soaps.

A New Item and a Relist

This week has been crazy busy, but I wanted to take a minute to promote my new item. This soap is so cute. I just love it. I have it at my kitchen sink and I can't get enough of it. I adore the scent. It smells like a bouquet of flowers (hence the name of the scent floral bouquet). I love the way my hands smell after I wash them.

Then I have this soap set relisted today. It has been very popular. I have made it with yellow flowers and pink flowers, but I would be willing to make it in the color of your choice. Yep, that's right. My newest listing is doughnut soap! Doesn't it look yummy? They are scent chocolate as the cake portion and the realistic dipping icing is scented strawberry. My mouth is already watering. These perfect treats won't make you have to do cardio as you won't have any of the calories, but the wonderful smell and feel of doughnuts.

They are the perfect size for little hands. Why not make bath time super fun with these doughnut soaps? You could also put them in your guest bathroom and see how impressed your friends will be. I thought today I would just post some of my yummy soap. I get feedback like "looks good enough to eat", "I am almost afraid my guest will eat it instead of wash their hands with it" and "your soaps is making me hungry". Today, I thought "why, not?". Here are my soaps that look good enough to eat.

Bubblegum cupcake soap with Warm Vanilla Sugar Soap frosting. This does look good enough to eat, but don't because it is soap.

Cafe Carmel cupcake soap with Warm Vanilla Sugar Soap Frosting. Yep, it really is soap!

Bug Soap - Set of Five! You pick the scent! I have been told these look like gummies, but they are soap! What little boy or girl wouldn't love bath time with these soaps!

Easter Soaps! These don't really look like candy or food, but they smell like candy! The scent is Cherry Vanilla Cream, but you can pick whatever scent you would like. They smell so good. It makes me want to eat them!

Facial Soap - Mild But Effective

I have posted facial soap on my Etsy site now. I was struggling with the fact that my skin is so sensitive that store bought products were too harsh, but sensitive products weren't keeping my skin clear of acne. I was back and forth and throwing good money out the window on tons of products. I finally found a recipe that I thought would be worth a try and WOW. I love it. I use it twice a day. My skin is clear and not dried out. I LOVE IT. Finally, finally a product that I can use to clear up my skin, but not get a rash or dry it out. The scent is honey almond and it smells earthy and natural. I love the way my skin smells after I use this soap. It has a finely chopped up oat scrub in the soap too. It exfoliates while washing. It is wonderful.

New Ideas Around Here

I am working on creating new products and ideas to improve my shop. I am currently working on shower gel, bubble bath, and possibly shampoo and conditioner to match scents with my soaps and lotions. I am the type of gal who likes to have everything match. I like being able to get into the bath with a Coconut Lemon Bath Bomb, then follow it up with some Coconut Lemon soap, and finished off the whole experience with Coconut Lemon Lotion. I have a young son so perfume isn't always an option so I want my skin to smell good, but I have to have it moisturized as well.

This is what I strive for in my products. The first priority is for it to be good for your skin. No unnecessary chemicals. No harsh ingredients. I started doing this to find something that my sensitive skin could use, as well as my husband and child. My husband used to have a horrible time shaving in the morning, but now he uses the shave soap I make and follows it up with some shaving lotion I make. There are no harsh chemicals in anything he uses so his skin looks and feels better.

Here is the latest idea I am working on...Tea Soap! It smells and feels wonderful. I think it would also feel soothing after a sunburn. I have to wait until summer to try that out though.

This soap has Lemon scented soap in the middle and real tea is used in the outer layer of the soap. It smells so great. I can't wait to get some on my site. I am afraid to say it, I keep making it, but we end up using it or giving it to our friends to try. Look for it soon!

Berry, Berry Good Bath Melts!

Berry, Berry Good Berry Cream Bath Melt - approximately 4.5 oz.

This is one my favorite items in my shop. I experiment and try all my products first and sometimes they take a little longer to perfect. These bath melts have been something I have been working on for a while. I decided in my last batch I was going to just add more cocoa butter because I really like it. It made the melt! I LOVE them now and I know you will too. It was hard to keep the shape nice and get the type of product I wanted. I decided to just use the circles and cubes to sell. They look the best and still keep the texture and structure that I liked. These smell like candy, but can easily be made with any scent that I offer. The way your skin feels after the bath is amazing. I used one last night and today my skin still feels silky soft.

I am busying adding new items to my store while I have a little down time in between orders, contract work, and all the other fun things life throws at you. One of my favorite new soaps is Lavender Flowers (Lavender, Lily of the Valley, and Vanilla scented soap. This 5 oz bar of soap has real dried lavender flowers in the soap. It seems like heaven.

I also have new initial soap. You can buy them individually or you can have up to three letters embedded in soap.
